The photo competition was held among Russian residents who are passionate about photography and love the sea. The theme of the competition was consonant with the theme of the World Expo 2012: “The Living Ocean and Coastal Zone”. The participants were asked to reflect in the concept of their work the motto of the Russian pavilion at the World Expo 2012, “Ocean and Man — The path from past to future”.
The photographers submitted over 170 entries. The winners were chosen by a jury comprised of professional photographers, Nauka i Zhizn journalists and representatives of EXPO 2012.
Misha Maslennikov from Moscow was awarded with the Grand Prix and a trip to the EXPO 2012 in South Korea. His work “Evening Storm” received the highest marks from the jury.

The aim of the competition is to attract the interest of the Russian people to the global problem of protection and sustainable use of resources of the World Ocean, the solution of which is sought and discussed by the participants of the EXPO-2012.
